District Five is a unique and diverse area that includes eight municipalities and
a Native American Community.
I am proud to represent more than
450,000 constituents throughout Avondale, Buckeye, Gila Bend, the Gila River Indian
Community, Glendale, Goodyear, Guadalupe, Phoenix, Tolleson and many smaller communities.

Avondale - In the late
19th century, Avondale was a pit stop on the main thoroughfare for folks racing
to the ‘Golden Coast’. Today, this vibrant city is a premier destination
for International NASCAR racing, festivals, shopping, dining, recreation, education,
family living, employment and business location.
Buckeye - Founded in 1888 and incorporated eight decades ago
as a 440-acre town, Buckeye has surged into the 21st century with a planning area
of almost 600 square miles. While Buckeye’s population of about 30,000 residents
is expected to increase at a rapid rate over the next few decades, the family-friendly
festivals sprinkled throughout the year help maintain the small-town feel that makes
Buckeye a nice place to visit – and to live.
Gila Bend - Gila (pronounced "hee-la") Bend, named
for the sharp bend in the Gila River. It is located near a prehistoric Hohokan Indian
Village which Farther Eusebio Francisco Kino visited in 1699.

Gila River Indian Community - The Gila River Indian Community,
located in central Arizona, affiliates its people and its government with a tribal
seal symbolizing the Gila River bringing life to the Sonoran Desert. The
seal is illustrative of the Community’s farming history.
Glendale - In 1880, the land that is now Glendale was nothing
more than empty desert. But in 1882, William J. Murphy joined three Arizona builders
to lead the Arizona Canal Co. project, which would bring water to the desert land.
World War II brought the birth of Thunderbird Field to train civilian pilots for
the Army. The military and college presence sparked a need for utilities, parks,
schools and streets.
Goodyear - Goodyear, Arizona . . . a city with a rich, rewarding
quality of life and great community spirit. Nestled near the base of the Estrella
Mountains, Goodyear is one of the fastest growing cities in the State. Yet it offers
all the advantages of a small community – less traffic, safe neighborhoods
day and night, and a friendly atmosphere that lets you feel at home right away.

Guadalupe - The Yaquis fled their traditional homeland along
the Yaqui River in Sonora to avoid persecution and enslavement by the Mexican government
under Porfirio Diaz. Residents voted to incorporate the town in 1975.
Phoenix - Phoenix is the capital and the most populous city
of Arizona and the county seat of Maricopa County. It was incorporated as a city
on February 25, 1881. Its physical location is along the banks of the normally dry
Salt River. As of 2006, the Phoenix Metropolitan Statistical Area was the 13th-largest
in the United States, with an estimated population of 4,039,182.
Tolleson - We will retain the foundation of our family oriented,
friendly, small town atmosphere. We will support a positive, diverse growth environment
that maintains and enriches the quality of life for everyone.
