Basics of Bird Watching - Usery Park
Usery Mountain Regional Park
Interested about getting into bird watching but don’t know where to start? Want to know which bird is which and how to spot them? Join Audubon bird expert, Sandy Hornbaker, for this introduction to bird watching as she guides you on a one-mile walk along the Merkle Trail. The well-manicured Merkle Trail offers universal access and the hard-smooth surface of this trail will accommodate wheelchairs and strollers. Bring binoculars if you have them, otherwise, Sandy has some to loan. Please bring water. Location: Area 6.

Elephant Mountain Fortress Hike - Spur Cross
Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area
November 7 Saturday 8:00 am Elephant Mountain Fortress Hike (difficult) Join us for a 7 mile / 5 hour roundtrip trek into the backcountry to one of the premier archaeological sites on the Conservation Area. Participants need to be in good condition and familiar with what hiking on primitive trails for this distance entails. Participants must bring at least 1 liter of water. We recommend you have a hat, & dress in layers.

Improve your balance for a bike ride through easy-to-learn fundamental yoga postures. This all-levels class, for both beginners and experienced yogis sets the tone for your day of hiking, riding or…yes, even your workday! Please join Inner Vision Yoga and their certified instructors for inspiring yoga every Tuesday and Thursday at 9 am and Saturday at 8 am! We are going to flashback to the past and visit the days of the Old West. We will be visiting Cave Creek’s history and make you feel like you are riding the stagecoach. This easy 2 mile hike will bring you down our historic Slate Trail and visit an old mining site. Bring EXTRA water and some sturdy shoes.

Find the Ranger - Wind Cave Trail - Usery Park

This open-house style program features the ranger hiking along the Wind Cave Trail and stopping to talk to park visitors. The ranger will show off the “Backpack of Knowledge”, and be available to answer questions about the park, discuss park history, identify desert plants, or even explain which animals call Usery Mountain Regional Park home. Carry ample water.

24-Hours of Fury
McDowell Mountain Regional Park
4 Peaks Racing, Bicycle Ranch and McDowell Mountain Regional Park are proud to bring you the Valley of the Suns premier endurance mountain bike event; The 12 & 24 Hours of Fury! This event will consist of loops around the perimeter of the Competitive Track at McDowell Mountain Regional Park, one of Arizonas most popular endurance courses. The rule is simple - the most loops in 12 or 24 hours wins.

Where The Wild Things Are Tracking Hike-Estrella

We will go into a sandy wash and look for signs of wild things-tracks, scat, holes, nibbles, etc. Learning to find and read animal signs (which are everywhere) is a fun way to make a hike more fascinating.
