Hike to Apache Springs- Cave Creek Park
Cave Creek Regional Park
Water in the desert? You bet. Join the ranger as we discover a magical area where there is water all year round. These areas become watering holes for all species of desert wildlife throughout the year. This will be a 6 mile moderate hike that will bring you to one of the often unseen areas that are few and far between in this harsh landscape. Bring plenty of water, snacks and sturdy shoes.

Cottonwood Wash Petroglyph Hike - Lake Pleasant
Lake Pleasant Regional Park
Let's hike where the Native American's hiked years ago. We will see evidence of the rock art they left behind. This hike is a moderate to strenuous 4 mile hike. We will be hiking on an old trail and in a wash bottom. Wear good hiking shoes and bring water and a snack on this hike. Water and bathrooms are available at the trailhead. We will meet at the north end of Lake Pleasant Park, in the Cottonwood Picnic Area. Look for the "Cottonwood Hike" signs. Just show up, no need to call, unless you have questions.

Find the Ranger - Wind Cave Trail - Usery Park
Usery Mountain Regional Park
This open-house style program features the ranger hiking along the Wind Cave Trail and stopping to talk to park visitors. The ranger will show off the “Backpack of Knowledge”, and be available to answer questions about the park, discuss park history, identify desert plants, or even explain which animals call Usery Mountain Regional Park home. Carry ample water.

Pleasant Paddlers Program - Mid Morning Madness Paddle
Lake Pleasant Regional Park
Come try the Mid Morning Madness on Saturday, November 28th. We will be paddle around a bunch of islands to the north of Scorpion Bay. Look for the "Pleasant Paddlers" signs from the contact station to the gate of the marina. Someone will be at the first Scorpion Bay Marina gate to let you through from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM (no entry after 9:00 AM), and just follow the road down to the launch site. Bring your own kayak or canoe and a sense of adventure. If you need a kayak, Scorpion Bay Marina has rental kayaks, call them at 928-501-7368 to reserve your kayak. We will be launching not too far from the rental area, so it will be easy to join the group. No registration needed, just show up before 9:00 AM. Stick around afterwards and eat at the new Scorpion Bay Marina Dillions!

Sonoran Desert Simplified!- McDowell Park

Bring all your visiting friends and relatives out to the park to walk off some turkey and have a leftover picnic lunch. How have people survived off the land for thousands of years? Which desert plants are edible and when are they edible? If you would like to know the answers to these questions, or any questions you may have about desert edibles, then this one-hour walk is for you! Join Ranger B on this one-mile stroll along the Merkle Trail as he shares some useful facts about our edible desert plants. The well-manicured Merkle Trail offers universal access and the hard-smooth surface of this trail will accommodate wheelchairs and strollers. Please bring water. Location: Area 6.
