Welcome to the Assessor's Interactive Mapping Page.
Our Goal is to provide our users with easy access to parcel maps and property
information. To do this we have created an interactive mapping application that
will allow the user to search for parcels and subdivisions and bring up a map
with the parcels, streets, subdivision boundaries and other land information.
For a quick start on using the new mapping program:
-
If this is the first time using this application, you may need to download a
viewer. If you have Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or better, the program will
automatically prompt the user to load this with a simple response. This program
ONLY works with Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or above. If you have AOL or
Netscape, or you have trouble loading the plugin for Internet Explorer, see
instructions
on loading the viewer.
-
Click on the
INTERACTIVE MAPS
link.
-
Once the map has loaded, you will be able to search for a parcel by address,
parcel number or subdivision name by entering your request in the search form
in the upper right corner.
-
Once that property has been found, click on the blue highlighted property to
confirm. This will bring up the property characteristics.
-
To see this property on the map, click the "Zoom Selected" button
and the map will zoom into an area around that parcel.
Other features:
-
Maps are printable! Click the "page setup" button
to
set your printer options. Then, when the page options are set, click the
"print" button.
-
The user can bring up an aerial photograph where available. Simply scroll down
to Aerial Photos on the legend on the left-hand side and put a check in the box
by clicking on it.
-
The map can be bookmarked so that it is easy to find again. Use the right mouse
click button to bring up the MapGuide menu. Scroll down to "bookmarks" and
choose "Add a bookmark". Type in a unique name that will be used to bring up
this same map next time. To go back to this map, use the same menu as above and
your bookmarked map name should show in the list. Simply click on it to go to
that map.
-
The internet address (URL) for a specific map area can be copied to be pasted
into another browser or in an e-mail to a friend. Click the "copy map as url"
button.
This will copy the URL to the clipboard to be pasted in an e-mail. The user can
also copy a specific map image into other applications by clicking the "copy to
clipboard" button.
The
map image can then be pasted into other applications such as Microsoft Word.
-
The user can also measure linear distances. To do this, click the "measure"
button.
Then simply click on a measuring start point and move the cursor to an end
point. The distance of the line should appear when the cursor has stopped.
Multiple line segments can be measured by using the left mouse click button to
start a new segment. To end the measuring session, double click the left mouse
button.
-
You can select several parcels and get a listing of those parcel numbers. Using
the "Select" button,
click
and drag the cursor creating a box around the desired selection area. The
selected parcel numbers will appear in the frame in the upper right hand
corner.
-
You can create a selection radius around a parcel to be able to select other
parcels within a certain distance of the selected parcel. First, select a
parcel with the "Select" button,
then
click the "Parcel Buffer" button.
Finally,
enter the desired distance and a buffer around that parcel with be generated
and all of the parcels within that buffer will be selected.
-
To create mailing labels from a list of parcels, see our help on how to do a
mail merge.
Suggestions for improved performance:
Download times may be slow when trying to load aerial photos, contour lines, or
large areas of data. This is due to the huge file size associated with these
types of data. To improve your download times it is suggested that you:
-
Turn off the aerial photo layer if you do not absolutely need to see the photos
in the background. The aerial photos will NOT automatically load, but must be
turned on by the user. You can turn this data layer on and off by clicking the
check box next to the Aerial Photo layer in the legend of the MapGuide viewer.
-
Turn off any other unnecessary layers.
-
When zooming in to an area, if you wish to zoom in again, you can hit the
"stop" button
on the MapGuide viewer which will stop loading all of the data for that view so
that you can then use the "zoom in" tool again to zoom in closer. This will
prevent you from having to wait for that data to load before you zoom in again.
-
As always, the faster the modem the better the performance. Also, performance
is slower during peak hours.
Current limitations of the interactive maps:
Maricopa County has approximately 1,200,000 parcels with over 9,000 square
miles. This is a lot of data!
-
The maps are often very graphic intensive and may require some time to
download.
-
Certain data is not yet available. Property information on commercial
properties is not yet available, but is scheduled to be added.
-
The registration between the parcels, street centerlines and aerials don't
always line-up very well. The department will be working with both MCDOT and
Flood Control District to match up the data in the future.
