Queen Creek Supplemental Environmental Projects Public Meeting
Air Quality Department, Bob Huhn, PIO
The Maricopa County Air Quality Department has scheduled a public meeting to solicit ideas for proposed environmental projects in and near Queen Creek. The meeting will be held on February 11, 2013 at 6:30 pm in the Zane Grey Room of the Queen Creek Branch Library, 21802 S. Ellsworth Road, in the Town of Queen Creek.

Maricopa County has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for projects, which will be available at the website link below. The deadline for submitting proposals will be announced when the RFP is released.

MCAQD has set aside $1 million of the penalty payment to the Department for alleged violations that occurred at the Queen Creek Landfill to conduct environmentally beneficial projects in and near the Town of Queen Creek within the County. The purpose of this public meeting is to solicit ideas from the community that was affected by the violations at the landfill regarding the types of projects that would be preferred and beneficial for air quality in or reducing air quality impacts on the community.

Examples of projects that could be considered include, but are not limited to, renewable energy development, retrofit or replacement of lawn and garden equipment, stabilization of distressed vacant properties, retrofits for school buses or municipal diesel vehicles and equipment, and feasibility studies on rehabilitation of public property for parks or similar uses.

The Department anticipates approving to one to several projects. All proposals will be reviewed by a committee that will include representatives of the greater Queen Creek community, and which will provide recommendations to the MCAQD Director.
