Queen Creek Air Quality Projects Public Meeting
Air Quality Department, Bob Huhn, PIO
The Maricopa County Air Quality Department has scheduled a public meeting to solicit ideas for proposed air quality projects in Maricopa County that will be funded from payments received through the Queen Creek Landfill settlement agreement. The meeting will be held on Monday, October 15, 2012 at 6:30 pm in the Zane Grey Room of the Queen Creek Branch Library, 21802 S. Ellsworth Road, in the Town of Queen Creek.

MCAQD has set aside $1 million of that penalty to conduct air quality projects in Maricopa County. The purpose of this public meeting is to solicit ideas from the community that was affected by the alleged violations at the landfill regarding the types of projects that would be preferred and beneficial for air quality in or reducing its impact on the community. Examples of projects that could be considered include, but are not limited to, renewable energy development, retrofit or replacement of lawn and garden equipment, stabilization of distressed vacant properties, retrofits for school buses or municipal diesel vehicles and equipment, and feasibility studies on rehabilitation of public property for parks or similar uses.

The Department will use the public comments in developing proposals to conduct one or more projects. Proposals will be reviewed by a committee that will include representatives of the greater Queen Creek community, who will provide recommendations to the MCAQD Director.

Written suggestions for projects and other comments will be accepted until Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. All written comments should be sent to Ira Domsky at or by mail to Maricopa County Air Quality Department, 1001 N. Central Ave., Suite 125, Phoenix, AZ 85004.
