Air Quality Compliance
The Air Quality Compliance Division is responsible for ensuring
that facilities are in compliance with applicable regulations and permit conditions.
The Major & Minor Source Inspection Section conducts
inspections and investigations of stationary and area sources of air pollution throughout
Maricopa County. This section responds to citizen complaints received concerning air quality
issues related to stationary sources. The
Diesel Idling and Vapor Recovery
programs are also administered by this section.
The Asbestos/NESHAP Program maintains
compliance with the Federal asbestos NESHAP Program.
The Performance Test Evaluation
Section oversees performance testing of stationary sources and provides technical assistance to
other sections in the Air Quality Department.
The Air Quality Compliance Division annually conducts 1500 inspections, issues 700 vapor recovery
certifications for gasoline tanker trucks, observes 85 performance tests and processes 1,200 asbestos
notifications with more than 450 follow-up on-site inspections.
In the performance of these duties, Compliance staff may initiate measures to control sources in violation
of applicable regulations and permit conditions and begin the enforcement process by recommending legal actions
against potential violators.
