Good Morning Hike - Cave Creek Regional Park
Cave Creek Regional Park
Get up, get caffeinated, and get out to the park for a hike! We’ll cover about 3.5-miles in a couple of hours and enjoy the wilderness before it gets too hot. Bring plenty of water, durable footwear, a hat and a smile. Meet at the Nature Center.

Life along the Creek - Spur Cross
Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area
May 18 Saturday 7:00 am Life along the Creek (moderate) Join interpretive ranger Kevin Smith as we look at the plants and animals that live in the riparian area along Cave Creek. The hike will take us through the Jewel of the Creek and along the lower section of the Dragonfly Trail for a distance of approximately 1.5 miles. Some rock-hopping may be required. Bring plenty of water. NOTE: This program is part of the “County Parks are getting Wet ‘n’ Wild this Summer” promotion. At the end of the program, we will give away a free family four-pack (4 free tickets to the Wet ‘n’ Wild Water Park)

National Kids to Parks Day- Cactus Flower Discovery Walks- North Trail– McDowell Park
McDowell Mountain Regional Park
Happy National Kids to Parks Day! Join Ranger Amy to identify the gorgeous desert cactus flowers that are blooming in the desert. From Cholla to Hedgehogs to Saguaros, this is the time of year where the desert shows its unique beauty. We'll also look for jackrabbits and lizards along the trail. All kid participants will earn a Junior Ranger badge. Bring your camera! Meet at the North Trail.

Animal "Signs" “The County Parks are getting Wet ‘n’ Wild this Summer!”- Cave Creek Regional Park

Animal "Signs" are everywhere, if you know what to look for. Have you ever been curious to know who made those "tracks" in the dirt? Or have you ever wondered who dug that "hole"? Join Ranger Mark as we investigate Animal "Signs". We will begin our adventure inside the Nature Center learning about the different clues they leave behind. Then we will take a hike to apply what we have learned. As a fun activity you can make a plaster cast of animal tracks to take home. Please bring water, wear sturdy shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. No dogs please. Meet at the Nature Center. “The County Parks are getting Wet ‘n’ Wild this Summer!” That means program participants will be eligible to win a 4-pak of tickets to Wet ‘n’ Wild Phoenix! 1. Tickets will be issued one per family. 2. Families can only win one set of 2013 Wet ‘n’ Wild tickets. 3. Visitors must attend the program in full and must be present to win. At the end of the program, the Interpretive Ranger will pull one winning ticket. 4. One 4-pack will be issued per program.

Yeee Haww! There’s gold in these here mountains, and we need your help finding it. Take your chance at panning for real gold and hear the story of San Tan’s RICH history along the way. Guests will be able to find, and take home, our “Family Fun Gold Nuggets” as well as participate in a separate gold panning with a real sample of gold. Come experience the San Tan Gold Rush and see if you have what it takes to be a prospector.

Moonlit Toad Hunt - Kids to Parks Day- McDowell

It's TOAD SEASON in the Desert! Celebrate Kids to Parks Day with Ranger Amy as we search for desert toads at the easily accessible Nursery Tank Pond at McDowell Mountain Regional Park. We regularly see 3 different kinds of toads at this pond, and we'll get an up close and personal look at them. Walking distance is less than 1 mile. All participants must wear boots or closed-toed shoes that they don't mind getting dirty.

Scorpion Scavenger Hunt - San Tan
San Tan Mountain Regional Park
What has 8 legs, 2 pincers, and glows under a black light? SCORPIONS! Set out on a desert exploration at night as we search for these fascinating creatures and find out just how cool these amazing arachnids really are. We will be hiking 1 mile, round trip, on the Goldmine Trail; bring plenty of water, proper hiking attire, and a flashlight (black lights also encouraged, but are optional). Black lights will be available to rent for $3.00 at the visitor center through the Friends of San Tan.
