Join us as we hike various trails in the park while enjoying the cooler daytime temperatures. Meet us at the Nature Center to get an early start! Bring plenty of water!

Early Bird Desert Birdwalk --Nursery Tank Pond- ADA Accessible- McDowell Park

Early Bird Desert Birdwalk to Nursery Tank Pond. Bring your binocs and come on out. No previous birding experience is required, only an interest in birds! We’ll look phainopeplas (often called ‘black cardinals’) and signs of our resident birds nesting on this level, easy walk. Meet at the Nursery Tank Trailhead.

Who gives a hoot? We do! Homeschooled students from around the Valley have been busy learning about the natural history of Sonoran desert owls. From amazing facts and funny myths to how pellets provide clues to the health of environment. Join Ranger Tish as we listen to how owls survive and thrive in the harsh Sonoran Desert. All park visitors are welcome to attend. Meet at the Nature Center.

Stop by the Nature Center to see our live Rattlesnake and Kingsnakes. If you are the squeamish type, but still curious, this program will be good for you. We feed pre-killed mice, so it may be easier for you to digest. Stop by before or after your return from your own adventure in the park. Location: Nature Center
