Welcome out of hibernation, Tortoises! - McDowell Park Visitor Center
McDowell Mountain Regional Park
Our Tortoises are out of hibernation! Come meet our resident tortoises, Lily, Lady, McKenzie and Scarlett. Drop in anytime between 8:00 and 8:30am to help Ranger Amy feed them breakfast, in their habitat behind the Visitor Center! Don’t forget your camera – our tortoises are very photogenic (and they move slowly so you can get great pictures. Meet out back of the Visitor Center.

Beginner Fitness Hike - Estrella Mountain Regional Park
Estrella Mountain Park
Did you know that Estrella Park has some great trails for easy fitness hikes? Join Ranger Amy on a 2-mile easy fitness hike along the gently rolling Horseshoe Trail. This trail is an ideal trail if you are a beginner hiker. We will hike this trail at a comfortable pace to allow us to get some exercise, but also take the time to enjoy the desert around us. Make sure to have water and appropriate footwear. Meet at the Horseshoe Trailhead.

Discover the Desert Wildflower and Blooming Plants Hike - Lake Pleasant
Lake Pleasant Regional Park
This is the time of year we see lots of color in the desert. Come explore with me and let’s see how many different blossoms we can find on this wonderful trail. The Pipeline Canyon Trail is one of the more scenic trails for wildflowers, so hopefully we will see a lot of flowers and plants blooming on this 4 mile hike. Keep your fingers crossed for a good crop of spring flowers, and join me for a fun search for this desert color. Hike Starts at the South Pipeline Canyon Trailhead. Be sure to bring water, although there is water and bathrooms at each end of the trail.

Healthy Hiking at Spur Cross
Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area
March 15 Friday 9:00 am Healthy Hiking (moderate) Join us for a 2.5 mile / 1.5 hour aerobic walk through a portion of the Conservation Area. Participants need not be tri-athletes, just ordinary folks who would like to begin or add diversity to their existing walking program.

"Just for Kids" - Toddler Cruise - Usery Park
Usery Mountain Regional Park
This 1-mile hike is designed for parents and grandparents with small children, ages 3 - 6 years old. Along with Miss Lynn, the kids will howl like coyotes, do the “bobcat crawl” and learn how to hydrate by counting gulps of water on their fingers. We will explore the desert along the scenic Merkle Trail. The hard-smooth surface of this trail will accommodate wheelchairs and strollers. Please bring water, hats, and closed-toe shoes. Location: Area 6.

Cat Cave Hike - Usery Park

Would you like to take a fun hike to see a cave where a mountain lion used to live? Not only will you get to hike in the desert but you will also discover amazing things about mountain lions! This 2-mile hike is on fairly-level ground. Not suitable for strollers. Please bring water, hats, and closed-toe shoes. Note: We won’t actually climb up to the cave but will view it from the trail. Location: Trail Staging Area.

If your kids are ready to go on an educational adventure, then join us for another exciting Home School at the Park. Get involved as we explore the Reptiles of San Tan Please with an exciting live animal presentation and a 1.3-mile reptile round up hike on the Littleleaf Trail. Please bring water and wear closed toed shoes. This class and hike are designed for children 5 and up.

The Desert Grocery Store – North Trail- McDowell Park

The Sonoran Desert is a virtual grocery store and pharmacy… if you know where to look. See (and sample) some of what people used to eat before grocery stores came to Phoenix, and find out which ones are still consumed. Try a chocolate chip cookie made with mesquite flour, or a cracker with agave nectar, along this easy, 2 mile stroll. Meet at the North Trail Trailhead.

All About Birds - "Brown-Bag It" with the Bird Lady - Usery Park

What makes birds so special and unique? Which are the most common birds in our area? How do they survive and thrive in our desert? If you would like to know the answers to these questions, or any questions you may have about birds, then this one-hour presentation is for you! Bring your sandwich to the “Brown-Bag It” series inside our nature center as bird expert, Sandy Hornbaker, deepens our understanding and appreciation for our feathered friends. 3 Dog Nights Hike! - Cave Creek
Cave Creek Regional Park
Ranger Mark is going to take his dogs for a hike on the Overton Trail (3.5 miles). You and your friendly dog(s) are invited to join them! We will experience a bit of elevation and watch the city light up as the sun sets. Bring sturdy shoes, flashlights, water for you and your pets, and leashes are required. Don’t forget, you will be required to clean up after your pet, so come prepared. Woof! Meet at the Nature Center.

Hayride and Cowboy Campfire at White Tank Park
White Tank Mountains Regional Park
This is one of our premier events at the Park. We will synch up the F 150 horses and give you a ride around part of the Waterfall Canyon Road Loop and then provide you with a campfire and some cowboy music, not to mention the hot chocolate, tea and marshmallows by the fire. Parking is restricted so you may have to walk or be shuttled from the Horse Staging lot. Dress warm. Bring some marshmallow roasting sticks and your singing voice. Area 4. THIS IS A RESCHEDULE FROM 3/8/13 due to the threat of storms.
