Birding in the Wash - Lake Pleasant
Lake Pleasant Regional Park
Let's go birding in this fun wash. We will meet for this hike at the Bobcat Day Use Area, which is just past the 10-lane boat ramp area (look for a program sign just past the 10-lane). This two-hour hike is moderate but does have one large hill, distance will be around two-miles. Wear good shoes, bring water, and binoculars. You may also want to bring your bird guide book.

Bring your coffee to Usery Park and explore the endless possibilities of backyard birding with bird expert, Sandy Hornbaker. Learn how to attract different birds to your own backyard and what you must provide to your feathered friends. Ask Sandy what your responsibilities are as a backyard birdwatcher and what you can expect. Please bring binoculars and water. Location: Campsite 21 in the Buckhorn Campground.

Participants need not be tri-athletes, just ordinary folks who would like to add diversity to their existing walking program. Wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water. Home School Program: "Mollusks and Others" - Usery Park
Usery Mountain Regional Park
Dive into the fascinating world of oceanography without ever leaving the desert! Become familiar with a variety of seashells and learn about the unique ocean creatures that form these shells. NOTE: Pre-registration is required through the Arizona Science Center. To register, please call the Arizona Science Center at (602) 716-2000 ext. 229, or email campbellm@azscience.org. Arizona Science Center members: $20 for the first child, $10 for the second child, and $5 for each additional child. Non-members: $30 for the first child, $10 for the second child, and $5 for each additional child. There is also a $6 per vehicle entry fee to enter the park unless you have a county parks annual pass. Location: Usery Park Nature Center.

*This program is canceled due to rain and flooding of Stoneman Wash* Brown Bag Historic Pemberton Ranch Hike- Hike begins at the Trailhead Staging area. Join Ranger Amy on an interpretive hike to historic Pemberton Ranch. Children should have some previous hiking experience, as hiking time is 2 1/2 hours, and 3 miles. Bring a bag lunch for a picnic out at the ranch site, and of course, plenty of water and sturdy shoes for the hike. No pets please.

Bring your binoculars to look for wildlife along the Gila River. Ranger Amy will guide you through this unique riparian habitat for a relaxing morning walk. This short, slow walk will start your day off on the right foot! We will meet at the Nature Center (then re-locate to the trailhead).

If you would like to know the answers to these questions, or any questions you may have about our desert, then this one-hour presentation is for you! Bring your sandwich to the “Brown-Bag It” series inside our Visitor Center as Ranger B from Usery Park busts some myths about our desert.
