Fridays Fitness Hike - *Meet @ Eagle’s Nest Trailhead*– Sonoran Trail - McDowell
McDowell Mountain Regional Park
ALL Fridays in December, 8:00am (Start Time) Fridays Fitness Hike – Various locations in Park Come to one or all of the Fitness Hiking Series, every Friday. It's a great way to meet people and get fit! We build up to a more strenuous hike at the end of the month. Please wear sturdy shoes & bring water. Friday, 12/30- Meet at the Eagle’s Nest Trailhead, which is outside of the Park- at the end of Golden Eagle Blvd, for a hike on the beautiful Sonoran Trail. 8-10 miles. Note: this is a long hike, so bring a snack and more water than you think you'll need.

Friday Fitness Series #4
Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area
January 25 Friday 9:00 am Friday Fitness Series #4 (moderate) Join us for this fourth and final of a series of Friday walks in January which progressively get more difficult each week. This fourth walk will be a combination of the Metate and Dragonfly loops for a total of about 4.5 miles. Participants need not be tri-athletes, just ordinary folks who would like to add diversity to their existing walking program. Wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water.

Do you drink coffee on your back porch Saturday mornings wondering about the names of the little birds flittering about? Bring your coffee to Usery Park and explore the endless possibilities of backyard birding with bird expert, Sandy Hornbaker. Learn how to attract different birds to your own backyard and what you must provide to your feathered friends. Ask Sandy what your responsibilities are as a backyard birdwatcher and what you can expect. Please bring binoculars and water. Location: Campsite 21 in the Buckhorn Campground.

Usery Mountain Regional Park
Are you new to Arizona? Are you curious about cactus and scared of snakes? If so, join us for an introductory experience to the Sonoran Desert. After a question-and-answer session, we will take an enjoyable one-mile walk on our scenic Merkle Trail. Please bring water and closed-toe shoes. Location: Area 6.

Fireside with the Ranger - Cave Creek Regional Park
Cave Creek Regional Park
Join Ranger Mark at the Nature Center for a "Fireside" chat. He will provide the "fire" and answer your questions about the flora and fauna of the Sonoran Desert. We'll listen for owls, bats and coyotes and maybe even "call" back to them! Bring your marshmallows and hotdogs, (don't forget a stick to roast them on). Be sure to ask him about his first adventure to old Mexico! Wow!

Event is on! Bring a Flashlight--Full Wolf Moon Hike - Pemberton Trail- McDowell
McDowell Mountain Regional Park
Update-- the Hike is on. However, please be prepared with proper rain gear, as it is likely to rain at some point during the hike. **The Full Moon Hike will be canceled if it rains. Check back here or call the park for updates. We will make a decision by 4:30pm, Friday.** January's full moon is the 'Full Wolf Moon'. There are no wolves in the Phoenix area, but did you know that there is a small population in Northern Arizona? We’ll listen for the howls of their smaller cousin, the coyote, on this full-moon hike, and learn about the reintroduced Mexican gray wolf in Arizona. Meet at the Trailhead Staging Area. Hike is approximately 3 miles and 2 hours. PLEASE BRING A FLASHLIGHT AS IT IS COMPLETELY OVERCAST. No pets please. Hiking time is 2 hours, 3 miles. BRING RAIN GEAR (poncho or raincoat).

Family Moonlight Hike - White Tank Park
White Tank Mountains Regional Park
2 miles round trip. Walking along the lower Black Rock Long Loop Trail in the moonlight will give you a different perspective on the beauty of the Uplands Desert. We will discuss the unique changes in the desert after the sun sets. Bring a flashlight. Meet in Area 4. No dogs please.

Full Moon Hike Adults Only - San Tan
San Tan Mountain Regional Park
Leave the kids at home, and join us on a breath taking adventure into the Sonoran Desert at night. Watch as the trails become illuminated under the light from the full moon, listen to the sounds of the wildlife at night, and feel the cool, crisp desert air as we peacefully make our way around the Stargazer loop (2.2-miles). Flashlights are encouraged.
