Fridays Fitness Hike – Trailhead Staging (Scenic)
McDowell Mountain Regional Park
Fridays Fitness Hike – Various locations in Park- ALL Fridays Come to one or all of the Fitness Hiking Series, every Friday. We build up to a longer hike at the end of the month. Please wear sturdy shoes & bring plenty of water. This week's hike starts at the Trailhead Staging Area, and hikes the 4.8 mile Scenic Trail.

Friday Fitness Series #2
Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area
January 11 Friday 9:00 am Friday Fitness Series #2 (moderate) Join us for this second of a series of Friday walks in January which progressively get more difficult each week. This second walk will be the Tortuga/Spur Cross loop for a total of about 3.5 miles. Participants need not be tri-athletes, just ordinary folks who would like to add diversity to their existing walking program. Wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water.

Celestial Petroglyph Hike at White Tank Park
White Tank Mountains Regional Park
This is a limited hike which means you have to make a reservation at 623-935-2505. Only 25 people are allowed on this hike into a restricted area of the park to view some very unusual petroglyphs. This is off trail so there is some rock hopping and climbing on this one and most of the walk is in sand so it can be a too strenuous for small children and those with physical limitations. Plan accordingly. No dogs on this hike please. Meet near the Area 7 at 10:00 am. You will get the meeting location when you register.

Exploring Desert Washes - Usery Park

Have you ever walked inside a desert wash? What makes them so special and unique? How do washes contribute to the health of the desert itself? Join us for a look at the fascinating world of desert washes as we explore their importance to the desert ecosystem. This walk is 1.5 mile in length. Please bring water, hats, and closed-toe shoes. Location: Trail Staging Area.

Why do saguaros grow arms? How old do they get? What are the unique strategies they use to survive and thrive in our desert? If you would like to know the answers to these questions, or any questions you may have about saguaros, then this one-hour presentation is for you! Bring your sandwich to the “Brown-Bag It” series inside our Nature Center as Ranger B shares his love for the “jolly green giant of the desert.” Location: Nature Center.

Join Ranger Mark at the Nature Center for a "Fireside" chat. He will provide the "fire" and answer your questions about the flora and fauna of the Sonoran Desert. We'll listen for owls, bats and coyotes and maybe even "call" back to them! Bring your marshmallows and hotdogs, (don't forget a stick to roast them on). Be sure to ask him about his first adventure to old Mexico! Wow!

Sunset Desert Photography Hike - San Tan
San Tan Mountain Regional Park
Capture the desert full of color as the day transitions to night and an unbelievable display of colors and shadows fill the desert. We are going to hike on a portion of the Moonlight Trail (approximately 1-mile round-trip) to several special viewing treasures. Please remember to bring plenty of water, proper hiking attire, and of course… your camera.

Digital Nature Photography for Beginners with Photographer, Steven Lewis - Usery Park
Usery Mountain Regional Park
Enhance your enjoyment of taking pictures while enjoying nature, whether it is out hiking, watching wildlife, or just watching the world pass by. We will work with you on getting your camera off of the "Auto" setting and will help you understand how your camera works to get better pictures. This presentation is best suited for owners of SLR cameras, but all cameras are welcome, we just ask that you know how to access your menus on your own. We will discuss the basics of ISO, aperture, shutter speed and how they are related, and how each can be used to improve your nature photography. We will also discuss how to read your histogram to make sure that you are getting the most out of your shot, and we will wrap up with a discussion on composition along with a Q & A period. Location: Nature Center.
