Why this is Important:

According to Maricopa County Superior Court records, over the past decade, there has been a 90% increase in felony cases filed in Superior Court. The number of first-degree murder cases filed increased 30%.

How Maricopa County government influences this goal:

Many factors influence the court’s ability to dispose of cases. Currently, the criminal bench is working in collaboration with other criminal justice agencies to reduce jail population, coordinate case transfers from justice courts, expand the Drug Court program and streamline criminal case management.

In FY2011, the percent of criminal felony cases revolved within 180 days declined from the percent in FY2010, but the goal of 85% remains within reach for 2013.
