Maricopa County ESA plans, designs, and delivers staff development opportunities
to increase teacher quality in Maricopa County schools. Maricopa County ESA is involved
in developing professional development activities for a variety of grants. These services
are offered at no cost, or minimal cost, to districts and teachers.
The Statewide Instructional Technology (SIT) Project is part
of Arizona’s statewide technology project under the Enhancing Education Through Technology,
Title IID funding. Each County ESA is responsible for creating the technology vision for
implementing this grant into school districts and charter schools within their county. Each
County ESA employs 1-2 Technology Integration Specialists (TIS) whose purpose is to provide
professional development opportunities for integrating current technologies and methodologies
for a variety of curricular, instructional, and administrative purposes in the school environment.
Every Technology Integration Specialist is required to have an active Arizona teaching certificate
and classroom experience. The model is designed to provide teachers with training and long-term
support to effectively integrate technology into the academic curriculum.
