Central Arizona HIV Prevention Advocates
Who We Are
Central Arizona HIV Prevention Advocates is a group of people committed to preventing the spread of HIV in Maricopa and Pinal counties. We aim to develop comprehensive HIV prevention recommendations for central Arizona that will result in programs that are responsive to high priority, community-validated needs within defined populations.
Each year, the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provides the state of Arizona with funding for local HIV prevention programs. The Central Arizona HIV Prevention Advocates (formerly known as the Central Arizona Community Planning Group) is a regional HIV prevention advisory body to the HIV Prevention Planning Group of Arizona (PPGA), the statewide community planning group.
We recommend which populations should be targeted for HIV prevention in Maricopa and Pinal counties, and how these populations should be targeted. Our recommendations then go to the statewide planning body – the PPGA. The PPGA creates the
final prevention plan and submits it to the
Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS). ADHS then uses these recommendations to guide how it will fund HIV prevention programs in Maricopa and Pinal counties and the state.
