Women need to be screened for breast and cervical cancer every year. If detected early, a woman’s chances of surviving greatly increase.
But cancer screening procedures, like a mammogram or a pap smear, can be expensive. Many women cannot afford to be checked for cancer regularly, and in many cases, the cancer is not detected early enough to save lives. The Well Woman Health Check program exists to provide free yearly cancer screening services to women who otherwise may not be able to afford it. The earlier the cancer is detected, the better chances you have of surviving.
The Maricopa County Well Woman Healthcheck Program is part of the
National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCED) funded by the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and administered through the
Arizona Department of Health Services. The Well Woman Healthcheck Program also receives funding for screening and diagnostic services not covered by the NBCCED program from the
Susan G. Komen Foundation, Phoenix Affiliate.
