 Breastfeeding
Peer Counselor Program
The Maricopa County Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program utilizes Peer Counselors
to help WIC mothers and babies get off to the best start with breastfeeding. Peer
Counselors are mothers who previously have breastfed and understand the challenges.
They provide mothers-to-be with information on the benefits of breastfeeding, myths/misconceptions
and answer questions about breastfeeding. Through partnerships with local hospitals,
the Peer Counselors are able to work with moms after they deliver. The Peer Counselors
utilize the expertise of our WIC International Board Certified Lactation Consultants.
