Being a parent is one of life’s joys, but it can also be a stressful job. When parents lack support and are not equipped with effective ways of managing their stress or overcoming barriers, child abuse can be a tragic result.

The Parent Support Center aims to prevent or reduce child abuse and serve as a community resource dedicated to strengthening families. The program is a collaborative effort between the Maricopa County Department of Public Health and Child & Family Resources, Inc.

We promote stronger families by providing social support and parenting education services within the home.

Through a combination of individual and group instruction, we provide parents with education on the following topics:

• Child growth and development
• Discipline and boundary setting
• Stress management
• Communication
• Conflict resolution
• Home management skills (budgeting, hygiene, safety, etc.)

• Assessing family needs (such as social, housing, financial, legal, education, employment, physical, health, mental health, and transportation)
• Linking families to community resources (such as child care, counseling, medical services, nutrition, financial benefits, housing programs, educational and employment programs)

The Parent Support Center is a short-term, voluntary program for parents in Maricopa County. The center accepts referrals from community providers, schools, and self-referrals.
