Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Program
Introduction:
All Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Services are offered to WIC mothers in Maricopa County WIC Clinics. Find out what the WIC Program is – click here.
The Maricopa County Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Program utilizes Peer Counselors to help WIC mothers and babies get off to the best start with breastfeeding. Peer Counselors are mothers who previously have breastfed and understand the challenges. They provide mothers-to-be with information on the benefits of breastfeeding, myths/misconceptions and answer questions about breastfeeding. Through partnerships with local hospitals, the Peer Counselors are able to work with moms after they deliver. The Peer Counselors utilize the expertise of our International Board Certified Lactation Consultants.
Mission:
Encourage and support Maricopa County mothers and their families through promoting awareness of breastfeeding benefits by advocating, educating, supporting and facilitating access to breastfeeding services.
Vision:
Mothers in Maricopa County choose to exclusively breastfeed to 6 months of age and continue with complimentary foods to one year and beyond.
