Spay & Neuter

Spaying or neutering your pet is one of the most important (and wisest) decisions you can make. In addition to helping reduce our community's pet homelessness problem, studies have shown that spayed/neutered pets are typically healthier, less territorial and less aggressive.

MCACC offers Maricopa County residents two options for low and no cost spay/neuter surgeries:

  • Neuter Scooter
a self-contained surgical unit that offers spay/neuter surgeries, license and rabies vaccination clinics for Maricopa County residents. The Neuter Scooter is intended for owned pets. Each Neuter Scooter Spay & Neuter event can provide service for up to 25 dogs and cats, depending on the size of each animal. Each Neuter Scooter Vaccine & License Clinic can provide service for more than 100 animals.
  • Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP)
SNAP provides free spay/neuter surgeries for owned pets of Maricopa County residents. Through SNAP, MCACC partners with private veterinarians throughout the Valley. This program is funded entirely by donations and is made possible by Friends of Animal Care & Control.
We have recently changed our Spay Neuter Assistance Program. Here are a few basic points about the SNAP process:
    • SNAP vouchers will be available at our East and West Valley Animal Care Centers at the beginning of each month (while supplies last). Whenever possible, we will also provide vouchers at our Rabies Vaccination Clinics. Please check our calendar of events for a list of upcoming clinics.
    • One pet per voucher. Please note, this program is funded entirely by donations and we are unable to provide unlimited vouchers.
    • Each voucher is number and cannot be duplicated.
    • Along with your voucher, you will receive a list of veterinarians who participate in the program. Select a veterinarian that is convenient for you and call them to make an appointment. Let them know you have a SNAP voucher.
    • Though the spay/neuter for your pet is no cost to you, some veterinarians may require the purchase of pain medications, additional vaccinations or other services. These additional services will be at your expense. When making your appointment, please be sure to ask if there are any additional costs.
    • This program is not intended for feral cats or animal rescue organizations.

The Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) is funded entirely by donations.

Uno Por Uno (One by One)

MCACC's Uno por Uno program was designed to reach neighborhoods, serve families and save animals - one by one. Uno por Uno is a proactive and creative approach to keeping the community safe, curbing the pet homelessness problem and ending the senseless euthanasia of adoptable pets in Maricopa County.

Through the Uno por Uno program, MCACC provides no‑cost Rabies Vaccination clinics to residents of Maricopa County. Dog licenses are available for dogs getting rabies vaccinations at Uno por Uno events ($17 for sterilized dogs; $42 for non-sterilized dogs). Microchips are offered at Uno por Uno events for $10. Please check our calendar of events for a list of upcoming Rabies Vaccination clinics.

FAQs

I tried to get a voucher and was told they are given out on a limited basis. Why? MCACC's Spay Neuter Assistance Program is funded entirely by donations. There may be times during the year when funding is limited and it will affect how many vouchers can be distributed. If you'd like to support this program, please donate to Friends of Animal Care & Control.

Do you provide low cost spay/neuter services? No, we do not. Our Spay Neuter Assistance Program utilizes a network of private veterinarians and clinics throughout the Valley. MCACC does not have the ability to provide low cost spay/neuter services as we are busy altering animals that have been, or are about to be adopted.
