Youngtown (before
Sun City
) is the first retirement community, originally
developed in 1954 and incorporated
in 1960 as a town. Its government offices are still
housed in the same ranch buildings (Greer Ranch) owned by Mrs. Greer. Youngtown
also is the first chapter
of American Assn. of Retired Persons (AARP),
which organization now has over 5,000 chapters throughout the
US
. It more recently (1990s) gained some newsprint as the age overlay was overturned
through action of the Attorney General's Office. Youngtown is a mixed-age
community with a lake, 8 parks, commercial area, mix of established/custom/new residential,
and its own Police Department. It enjoys the longevity and support of Town
employees (one Director has 34 years of service).
Youngtown has met many challenges of
change, but continues to be a loyal, regional partner with its growing sister cities.
Youngtown is embracing all factions of its community to sustain a small-town atmosphere
and quality of life.

Koppy's Body Shop. Operations started June 14, 1971 by J. Ambrose Koppy, 36
years ago. Now his four children ("Koppy Kids") run the business.
This is one of 145+ store front businesses
in Youngtown. On July 18th, 2007, Mayor Michael LeVault and Town Manager,
Lloyce Robinson met with a small group of long-time Youngtown businesses to re-initiate
a collaborative forum to revitalize the commercial presence in Youngtown.
It was a successful communication experience. 20 businesses were invited and
15 attended, representing a hardware store, golf car sales, restaurant, pest control,
flooring, auto repair/body, plumbing, mini-storage, glass/mirror, and consignment
shop.
