Gilbert’s downtown Heritage District is one of the community’s many centers for small business. Currently undergoing formal redevelopment efforts, the Heritage District is a prime location for unique retail and restaurant uses with an additional focus on office and residential elements creating a true mixed-use environment.

The Capital Fuel Feed & Seed Co. began when Paul Aepli came to Gilbert in the late 1920s as a hay broker. He first bought and sold alfalfa hay and then began building his service station. This station furnished gas, oil and vehicle service in addition to selling seeds, baby chickens and any other commodities a farming community might need. Capital was a successful, all-purpose store of its time. Photo courtesy of Gilbert Historical Museum.
