Maricopa County is the fourth most populous county in the nation, and is home to more people than 21 states and the District of Columbia. Maricopa County is vast covering 9,226 square miles and is not particularity bounded by any major land features that would slow urban sprawl. Maricopa County recognizes these challenges and through specific measures within the GGP, is acting to improve thoughtful land use strategies both internally and externally.
