Alteration Permit


An alteration permit allows for the replacement of one component, either the disposal field OR the septic tank, of a previously approved on-site wastewater treatment facility. Alteration permits are typically requested if:

  • One component (tank or disposal field) of the existing system is failing
  • The existing septic system will be insufficient for remodeling of or additions to the existing dwelling

Public Record Request is required before submitting an Alteration Permit if the existing septic permit is unknown or not in the possession of the current owner.

If the alteration is requested to replace the existing septic tank, the existing tank must be properly abandoned. Please download Closure/Abandonment packet for instructions.
