John Power, Director

It is the Department’s mission and goal to prevent and remove environmental risks to the residents of Maricopa County which is accomplished through the efforts of over 200 dedicated employees who work for Environmental Services. We provide our customers a variety of services, including business regulation and inspections, information, and response to citizens’ complaints. It is very important for us to receive input from our community in general to better identify situations that may require more emphasis for compliance.

In carrying out our mission to protect public health and the environment, we will be courteous, professional, flexible, honest and helpful in all dealings with our customers. We will listen actively to our customers so we can better understand their needs, be fully responsive, and better provide the environmental services and information they value.

Many people know that our department performs the restaurant inspections, but we serve many more functions in addition. For example, other divisions in the Environmental Services department have programs to ensure that our water is free from contamination and to prevent vector borne illnesses from spreading.

Even with our rapidly increasing population in Maricopa County, it is our belief that we can continue to meet and exceed the needs of residents to ensure a healthy and safe environment.
