Director of Diversity
George L. Garcia, M.R.P., N.R.F. is Maricopa County’s Acting Diversity Director, working in the County Manager’s Office.
Mr. Garcia has been with the Maricopa County for 20 years. He came to Maricopa County as a National Urban/Rural Fellow in 1985 and was the Special Staff Assistant to the Assistant County Manager for Health Services Administration. In 1986 he was awarded his Masters Degree in Regional Planning with an emphasis in Rural Community Development from the Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning Department from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Massachusetts.
Since receiving his Masters degree, Mr. Garcia has worked for Maricopa County in various high-level positions. Those positions include appointments as the State Legalization Impact Grant Administrator, Acting Director for Emergency Management in Public Health, Administrative Director for Preventive Medical Services, Acting Director for Chronic Disease and Tobacco Control, Acting Division Director/Administrative Agent for Ryan White Title I, and Director of Community Development and Minority Health. In August of 2007, Mr. Garcia was appointed as the Diversity Manager with the County Manager’s Office and was named the Acting Diversity Director in April of 2007.
