Community Development : CDAC Advisory Committee
Members of Community Development Advisory Committee (CDAC) are appointed by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors to provide recommendations for CDBG and HOME Program project funding and perform oversight of the Maricopa Urban County CDBG and HOME Programs.
During the program year, applications are received from local municipalities and non-profit organizations requesting consideration of their projects for CDBG and HOME Program funding. This year CDAC had a formidable task before them. The committee reviewed 22 applications totaling over $4,228,095 in funding requests. This was almost twice the amount of available funds. After a thorough evaluation of the merits of all applications, CDAC made funding recommendations to the Board of Supervisors for 7 CDBG and 5 HOME projects totaling $2,887,783. Among these were a water and fire protection system for Buckeye; street reconstruction with sidewalks, curbs and gutters for El Mirage; sewer system improvements for Wickenburg; sidewalks, curbs and gutters for Queen Creek and Guadalupe; purchase and installation of street lights for Youngtown; contributions to the construction of the East Valley Child Crisis Center; homebuyer downpayment assistance in El Mirage, housing rehabilitation in El Mirage, Tolleson and Queen Creek; and construction of new single-family homes in Guadalupe.
CDAC also oversaw dozens of active projects ensuring that the grant funding would provide much needed assistance for residents of low and moderate income.
