ASSESSOR’S OFFICE JOB DESCRIPTION
GIS TECHNICIAN III
JOB SUMMARY :
Uses GIS and various computer application systems to research
property titles and determine parcel boundaries for the assignment of Assessor
parcel identification to create parcel maps for the most complex splits and
subdivision processing, and perform quality assurance of Cadastral maps.
PRIMARY DUTIES: The following duties are representative of the range
and scope of duties performed. They are illustrative only, and are neither
all-inclusive nor does every position perform all duties described:
Splits or combines parcels to correspond with deed legal descriptions, assigns
new parcel numbers, and determines property descriptions of new parcels for
difficult or complex parcel changes or subdivision splits.
Computes acreage or square footage calculations for irregular or difficult
parcels; reads and interprets Cadastral parcel maps. Drafts legal descriptions
onto Cadastral maps and CAD system.
Research aerial photos and maps to determine land components and improvements.
Researches complex inquiries from property owners, title companies and other
government agencies regarding property ownership and legal description.
Corresponds with property owners, title companies, government agencies or
engineering firms regarding questions of ownership or legal description.
Provides in-house technical assistance to team members and conduct quality
control and assurance checks of work to ensure that departmental standards are
followed. Prioritizes project workload to coincide with plan schedules and time
estimates.
Listens and communicates effectively with written and oral
skills to customers, public, business representatives, staff, and supervisors.
Completes special or complex projects as requested by supervisor.
REPORTING STRUCTURE:
Under limited supervision of the Splits Team Supervisor or a GIS Programmer
Analyst project leader. Responsible for the completion of specific duties or
tasks with periodic updates to supervisor.
CONTACTS:
A. Internal: Field and internal Appraisers, support staff and other
GIS staff.
B. External: Taxpayers, other government agencies, companies in the
real estate industry (lenders, appraisers, title companies) and engineering
firms.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
PC experience required.
- Education:
Bachelors degree in Engineering, Geography, Math or a
real estate related field. Four years of Civil orCadasral CAD experience may
substitute for a degree
- Experience:
One year of Cadastral CAD experience.
- Specialized Training:
Experience in real property legal
descriptions, real estate transactions MicroStation CAD or ESRI software is
preferred for this position.
STARTING PAY*: Min $16.34
