ASSESSOR’S OFFICE JOB DESCRIPTION
GIS TECHNICIAN I
JOB SUMMARY :
Uses GIS and various computer application systems to research
property titles and determine parcel boundaries for the assignment of Assessor
parcel identification to create parcel maps and complete the parcel splits
process.
PRIMARY DUTIES: The following duties
are representative of the range and scope of duties performed. They are
illustrative only, and are neither all-inclusive nor does every position
perform all duties described:
Splits or combines parcels to correspond with deeded legal
descriptions, assigns new parcel numbers, and determines property descriptions
of new parcels for parcel changes or subdivision splits.
Computes acreage or square footage calculations for average or simple parcels;
reads and interprets Cadastral parcel maps and may assign land components to
identified parcels.
Researches inquiries from property owners, title
companies and other government agencies regarding property ownership and legal
description. Corresponds with property owners, title companies, government
agencies or engineering firms regarding questions of ownership or legal
description.
Reviews work to ensure that departmental standards are
followed. Prioritizes workload to coincide with project plan schedules and time
estimates.
Listens and communicates effectively with written and oral
skills to customers, public, business representatives, staff, and supervisors.
Completes special projects as requested by supervisor.
REPORTING STRUCTURE:
Under the supervision of the Splits Team Supervisor or a GIS Programmer Analyst
project leader. Responsible for the completion of specific duties or tasks with
periodic updates to supervisor.
CONTACTS:
A. Internal: Field and internal Appraisers, support staff and other
GIS staff.
B. External: Taxpayers, other government agencies, companies in the
real estate industry (lenders, appraisers, title companies) and engineering
firms.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
PC experience required.
- Education:
High School Diploma or GED
- Experience:
Two years of real estate title research or two years of
CAD experience.
- Specialized Training:
Experience in real property legal
descriptions, real estate transactions MicroStation CAD or ESRI software is
preferred for this position.
PAY*: Min $13.75
